Veggie Chicken Cutlet

My friend brought me to 4 Stones Vegetarian Restaurant and I was really amazed at the dishes they were able to make! I’ve had vegetarian food before, but haven’t tried this place yet, and people had given 4 Stones great ratings. They have a large variety of choices and the fact that they could make chicken cutlet vegetarian was pretty cool. All their rice dishes were also made of brown rice, which made it really healthy. So if you want to try some healthy vegetarian food, or if you’re vegetarian and wanting some variety, this is the place to go!

Went for some shopping in the states a few weeks ago and was excited to hear that Din Tai Fung was opened near where I was staying! It’s famous throughout Asia, from Tapei, Hong Kong to even Japan, for their dumplings! So knowing that it was close to our hotel, we had to go give it a try. It’s located in Bellevue, Seattle in the Lincoln Square, next to Bellevue Square Shopping Centre, which on Friday night, is terrible to find parking! Took us at least half an hour to find parking…almost felt like it was Boxing Day. First thing I saw when I got to the entrance were a bunch of cooks behind a glass window rolling out flour and   forming buns. They worked as a team and was almost like an assembly line, passing each part to the next team member. After a wait for about 40 minutes, we were finally brought to our seats. And I have to say, we were already eating really late, almost 9:00pm, but this restaurant has non-stop traffic. And to my surprise, I can say half the customers there were non-Asian. More to my surprise were that many of the servers were Caucasian and even the Asian servers spoke English. Quite contrary to our Asian restaurants back in Richmond, where some servers might even have trouble speaking English. I guess there is such a large crowd of Caucasian customers, that they must hire people with fluent English. The dumplings were typical I guess, but I really enjoyed the Pork and Glutinous Rice Shaomais. And I’m a huge fan of red bean paste, so I had to try  the Red Bean Buns. They were made with such fresh red bean that you could taste the bean. Same with the taro! Tasted real good! When we left, there were still people waiting for seats. What a busy restaurant, but I have to say, it’s worth the wait!

The Naam

Gold Dragon Dragon Bowl – mix of Naam fries, cheese, miso gravy, steamed veggies, sprouts, carrots & deep fried tofu

Tempeh Reuben – Marinated tempeh with melted cheese, grilled mushrooms, mustard, sauerkraut & grated beets, on a whole wheat burger bun

Always heard about the Naam, but never got to try it till now! The Naam is a very busy vegetarian restaurant, and you can tell just by the lineups outside. Our wait was around 15 minutes I guess – not too bad. It’s located in the Kitsilano district on Main St, and is open 24 hours everyday! They say they only close on Christmas. That’s pretty crazy! Around half an hour after we got in, live music was also going on. We later found out that there is live music of folk, jazz, and blues every night from 7-10 pm. Not a huge fan of that type of music, but definitely an interesting and lively experience. The decor inside the restaurant is also very funky with wooden furniture and flooring. The restaurant has been given awards from Best Organic Restaurant to Best Vegetarian Restaurant, so definitely well known and worth a try. And the food is really full of veggies, and lots of it! The portions are huge and you can actually get full from all those organics. The burger that my friend tried had tempeh, which was basically a slice of tofu-like patty that is made of soybeans. Pretty interesting! So if you’re craving some veggies or just want to eat healthy, this is the place to go! Open anytime except Christmas, so no excuse to not get some vegetarian food!

Foundation

Nachos – with guacamole, sour cream, and salsa

Final Option – Crazy Veg Curry, Served on Rice

OPPP – Our Peanut Pesto Pasta. Onion, Broccoli and Tofu tossed Round Pasta

Foundation is a vegetarian restaurant on Main St. It is probably one of the most hipster restaurants I have ever been to. And it’s not just the people working there. People eating there are also very hipster with a unique style of their own, but I guess most of the people strolling around the streets of Main are like that. Most tables were ordering the huge platter of nachos and there seemed to be a rave about how good they were, so we ordered it too. We only ordered the regular size and it was already huge! Really cheesy with beans and the side sauces make it even better! Definitely a must try! Servings are also quite large and I’m not even a big fan of veggies, but I definitely enjoyed my vegetarian meal here! If you want to enjoy a different dining experience – perhaps a hipster one, this is the place to go!

ABC Cafe

Baked Alaska

ABC Cafe recently opened at Aberdeen Mall in Richmond. The restaurant has a nice, clean atmosphere and service was quite fast. The prices are relatively expensive for HK Style Cafe food, but the ingredients used are also of higher class. They have dishes like steak, and a variety of seafood. The food is more western styled than most Chinese cafes. Overall, the food was quite good. Nothing too special I guess. My friend was craving some Baked Alaska afterward, so we ordered it. The flame went up and unfortunately, I think it burned the meringue too much so that it was actually burnt on the sides and had a bad aftertaste. Inside, was fruit cake as opposed to a brownie base that I usually have. It was still good, but I wish it weren’t so burnt!

Faubourg

Finally got a chance to stop by at the Faubourg bakery the other day! I always bus by the Kerrisdale neighbourhood and always wanted to go in and have a look. The pastries, sandwiches, soup and coffee all look so delicious! You can eat in and they also offer afternoon tea in the afternoon which looks really good! They offer you an amazing Parisian experience with their savory gourmet items, authentic French macaroons, desserts, coffees and teas. A must try if you stop  by in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood!
