Mushroom & Swiss Supreme Chicken Sandwich

I’ve been wanting to try the McDonald’s new Supreme Chicken Sandwiches for a while, and finally decided to get it! They have three flavours: Mushroom & Swiss, Tangy Thai and BLT. You can also choose from grilled chicken or crispy chicken. I went for the Mushroom & Swiss with crispy chicken and surprisingly with a fast food restaurant, it was overloaded with mushrooms. The bun is also quite different from their burgers. It seemed like a better quality type of bun, but it still seems quite pricey for a small sandwich at McDonald’s. Delicious nonetheless!

Sunway Restaurant

Taiwanese Beef Noodle

Deep Fried Pop Chicken

Sunway Restaurant is located in Empire Centre, the mall next to Parker Place in Richmond. They are famous for their Taiwanese Beef Noodles and their Deep Fried Popcorn Chicken, so of course I had to try them. The beef noodles are great, but what really caught my attention were the popcorn chicken. I’ve tried a variety of popcorn chicken, like the ones at Pearl Castle and Well Tea, but these tasted very different. They had a unique outer crispy layer that was very different from the others I have tried. It felt less oily, and the crispy layer wasn’t too thick. Prices were also very reasonable with large portions. These popcorn chicken are a must try!

McCafe

I don’t know if we have this in Canada, but when I saw it in the States, I decided to try it! It’s the McDonald’s McCafe Strawberry Lemonade. It looks really pretty, but I found it a little too tart for my taste. Really refreshing on a hot day though. Probably not something I want to drink right now though! It’s freezing here!!

Bell’s Bake Shop

Red Velvet Giant Cupcake

Did I make this myself? Nope…but it sure looks like one after a really disappointing cake fail story! I got my friend a giant cupcake for her birthday at Bell’s Bake Shop in Steveston Village, and by giant, I mean it’s supposed to be equivalent to around 20 cupcakes, so it feeds around 10 people. This one was red velvet with buttercream frosting. So I picked it up at the store, and they showed me how it looked inside the box, and I went back into the car carrying it on my lap while I was driven to the restaurant for dinner. I was told to just put it at room temperature so I handed it over to my waitress. Around 15 minutes into dinner, my waitress comes over and tells me that I should take a look at my cake. The manager was also there and said that he had opened it and the cake had fell. Basically the whole top half had toppled to one side. I was extremely disappointed and asked if they could do anything to fix it up. And this is what they came up with. Pretty good compared to what a mess it had looked like…The red colouring is from the birthday message I had paid to get written, and I told the chef to just smother it around since the message was ruined anyways.  I had paid $35 for the cake with $2 extra for the birthday message. I don’t know if it was my own fault from the way I carried it, or the cake shop themselves, but I am definitely not going back there again – at least not for a giant cupcake. Yes, the giant cupcake looks really cool and presentable at the table, but if it is so unstable and just topples over, I really don’t think it’s worth it. I might as well just buy 20 different cupcakes.

Damien’s Belgian Waffles

White Chocolate Belgian Waffle

Always heard about Damien’s Belgian Waffles in Steveston Village but never got a chance to try it! Took me a while to even find the place since it’s not exactly near the wharf area. Place was quiet and small, but there were a variety of waffles to choose from. I decided to go for the white chocolate flavour. It started to melt really quickly when I began eating it though. It’s also cold, which is kind of weird for a waffle. I guess I had too high of an expectation coming in, so I only left with a “It’s alright”. I do want to give the matcha belgian waffle a try though since I love green tea flavoured food!

ABC Cafe

Vermicelli in Fish Soup with Fish Tofu and Beef

Black Pepper Spaghetti

Wandered around Aberdeen to decide what to eat, and ended up ABC Cafe again. This is my second time and it was a lot more empty than during their grand opening. I decided to try their “Make your own noodle soup” menu and was quite surprised that the portion was quite large. Overall, it was pretty good, with quick service and decent food.

4 Stones Vegetarian

Ground Veggie Meat Sauce with Rice

Curry Fried Rice

Veggie Chicken Cutlet Noodles in Soup

Veggie Chicken Cutlet

My friend brought me to 4 Stones Vegetarian Restaurant and I was really amazed at the dishes they were able to make! I’ve had vegetarian food before, but haven’t tried this place yet, and people had given 4 Stones great ratings. They have a large variety of choices and the fact that they could make chicken cutlet vegetarian was pretty cool. All their rice dishes were also made of brown rice, which made it really healthy. So if you want to try some healthy vegetarian food, or if you’re vegetarian and wanting some variety, this is the place to go!

Han Ju Tofu Hot Pot

Korean Style BBQ with Rice

Seafood and Tofu Hot Pot

Han Ju Tofu Hot Pot is one of my favourite korean places to go! I don’t especially think of it as a Korean place though, since they only offer a few types of Tofu Hot Pots, and the rice. So, basically people come here to eat these few dishes. They do offer a few snacks and bubble tea drinks, which I find a little bizarre. I love their seafood hot pot though! It’s got these clear noodles inside the hot pot along with rice, so it’s really filling. You can also choose how spicy you want it. This one is mild. I have yet to try their Korean Style BBQ with Rice though! My friends always get it and say it’s their must have here! Their prices ranger from $5.95 to $6.95, so quite reasonable for a good portion. Don’t expect any fancy furniture or service though, as even their serving board is just similar to a fast food plastic one. Also gets quite busy during dinner time, so get there early!
